Trans Tune
FAQs
Use of a stop leak additive, while a convenient short-term fix for a leaky transmission, can end up doubling or tripling the transmission repair costs you eventually will have to face. As the stop leak additive is absorbed into the seals and o-rings within your transmission, it causes them to soften and expand, and this is what temporarily stops the leaks. However, the stop leak additive fundamentally alters the consistency and density of those seals and o-rings, changing them from a firm dense rubbery material into something resembling the consistency of a marshmallow. This changes the torque tolerances between metal components and allows for more movement and vibration between these parts. Eventually, mechanical vibration shreds the now-softened seals, causing a catastrophic failure of the seals. So, what started out as a simple issue involving a single leaking seal, now affects EVERY seal and o-ring in your entire transmission, requiring a total tear-down of the entire transmission and replacement of every rubber and plastic component in the transmission.
TransTune has absolutely no effect on the composition of transmission seals or o-rings! TransTune simply acts to dissolve varnish build-up in valve bodies, pumps and passageways, enabling your transmission to function as it was designed by the manufacturer. TransTune also controls harmful moisture that can cause corrosion and affect performance. At Sea Foam, we trust that the auto manufacturer’s engineers knew what they were doing when they selected a specific Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) for their transmission. If there was a need to address problems with chronic overheating, they would have engineered the transmission differently, or installed a more heavy-duty transmission in the vehicle. Virtually all transmission manufacturers state that these types of ATF additives should NOT be used.
Premature oxidation of ATF is brought about by excessive and extended overheating, which is usually caused by exceeding the transmission manufacturer’s operational recommendations, such as towing loads exceeding recommended limits, or towing in an extremely hot climate for extended periods. Adding a product that is designed to overcome the effects of exceeding a transmission’s operational limits is inadvisable, and gives a false sense of protection.
TransTune is not a “performance enhancer” ATF additive. TransTune was designed primarily as a transmission or power steering system flush and additive, helping to dissolve varnish deposits that build up over time. TransTune also controls moisture that is absorbed by ATF that can damage transmission and power steering components. Our philosophy is that a clean transmission has a greater chance of functioning the way the manufacturer intended. Observance of the transmission manufacturer’s recommended service schedule (lubrication fluid changes in particular) and operational limits will go a long way toward ensuring trouble-free operation. If your automatic transmission is shifting erratically or sluggishly, it could benefit from a TransTune treatment to remove the varnish build-up and moisture that frequently causes these problems. If the transmission occasionally sticks for a second or two before engaging the next gear, or engages with a jolt, this can be caused by clogged valve bodies in the transmission. Sea Foam can help to remedy this condition.
With regular use, TransTune can help to prevent power steering performance problems by keeping varnish build-up to a minimum. Small bits of aluminum collect in hoses, transmission pumps and reservoirs due to normal wear and tear, getting embedded in these varnish deposits. These can affect the performance of the steering pump, causing excessive noise and accelerated wear of critical components.
