See you there!
If so, then, what are the chances that 2 brothers, 3 years apart in age, growing up in the fifty's and sixty's, would both be car guys?
Enter Dick & Jim Davis, products of that era that introduced muscle cars, neat cars, fast cars, race cars, car songs on the radio, the Beatles, the Beach Boys, eight track tapes, drag strips, street racing, summer's of love, drive in restaurants, drive in movies, hippies, and war on the nightly news. . . . . to our society.
Dick went to College in 1967 while Jim was still in High School. Both Jim and Dick had already tasted the Wednesday Night Specials at the local Drag Strips, Minnesota Dragways and North Star Dragways, also the famous "Sunday, Sunday, Sunday" racing, as their budgets would allow. After college Dick got into the Auto Parts Business, while in 1970 Jim attended Technical school. The racing "Fuse" was lit!
Enter the 21st Century, with lots of oval track and now drag racing done reasonably successfully on limited incomes (from the pearls of wives and raising families), Dick and Jim are still "Car Guys". Dick works for Sea Foam Sales Company as a Salesman since 1997, and Jim, since 2008, as head of Sea Foam's Technical Department.
Today after building and racing many race cars, disagreements between family (Dick & Jim), the addition of close friends like Sam Dercole, and second generation family members the race team has grown and today exists as SJD Racing with sponsorship help from Sea Foam Sales Co. SJD Racing has become a true Family race team.
Currently the Team has two race cars. The second generation is starting to take over the driving duties. Dani Davis, (Jim's daughter) drives the teams Sea Foam sponsored 1966 Chevy Nova and Jim Davis still drives the teams 2004 Vanishing Point Chassis Sea Foam sponsored Chevy Camaro in NHRA Super Gas competition. Dick Davis and Sam Dercole have both retired from driving duties recently, and now act as team crew and car chiefs at the race track. Also helping at the race track are Dick Davis III (Dick's son) as chief mechanic, Julie (Dick's daughter), and Kayla Davis (Jim's Daughter) doing all video recording.
My name is Danielle Lynn Davis. I can sincerely say I was born to race. In fact, I was even born on a race weekend – July 15th, 1990 in Brainerd, MN. Since childhood my sister Kayla and I have been watching our father, Jim Davis, along with our godfather, Sam Dercole, race cars.
Racing has always been and will continue to be a huge part of my life. We race a 1966 Nova and a bright red 2002 Camaro. Thankfully, Sea Foam Sales Co. helps sponsors us, as they have for several fun-filled years now!
Since the beginning, I was always excited to be part of a race team. Now, at nearly 20 years old I am proud to say that I am part of Sea Foam's race team as one of the two team drivers.
I joined the team last year, and I was very pleased with my improvement throughout the 2009 season. I went into my first national event feeling very eager, excited, and confident.
As a result, I ended up reaching Round 4. After winning my first round ever in competition, I was ecstatic. The fact that it was at a national event made it that much better.
I fell in love with the sport even more. When racing, I feel it is vital to feel comfortable and at ease with your car.
Therefore, this past year I've focused on learning as much as possible, particularly with the '66 Nova. To me this is important, especially when going 145 mph! I have become very passionate and quite competitive with the sport of drag racing. I have role models, such as Ashley Force, to look up to. And I know I will continue to be involved in the drag racing world for several years to come.
To all the gentlemen out there, I'm sorry to say, drag racing is no longer a "Man's sport!"
We'll have more news and updates for you soon!
See you at the drag strip!
